YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK

Our thoughts create
our life. Our thoughts are life. Like people inside our heads, each one is
telling us his story. Each one gets us to see the world the way he sees
it. Our thoughts occupy space inside
our heads. Too many and it gets overcrowded.
If it gets overcrowded we can not see clearly. Too many thoughts and we get
overworked; tired; and we use up energy just to feed them all; “I’ve got so
much on my mind!”
Too many negative ones overpower the good ones like bullies on a playground.
Our thoughts try to control us. Our thoughts can be unruly, moody; they are
always changing. Too many negative thoughts, too many fights inside our head,
too many trying to control us; THE RESULT: anger, resentment, fear, low self
esteem- unhappiness! If we can not control our thoughts how do we control our
behavior?
Control our thoughts!
Ø
Treat them like the little
people they are-like children. Understand them. Just watch them, don’t react
to them. Detach yourself. They can not harm you. Nor can you harm
anybody if you don’t act on them. Just listen to them. You don’t have to
act or react. Just like with a child. Talk to them. You’ll find you are
talking to yourself-your child.
Then ask God for help.
YOUR HEAD IS YOUR WORLD! YOU LIVE IN YOUR WORLD, YOUR
HOUSE, GOVERNED BY YOUR THOUGHTS. YOU SEE YOUR THOUGHTS EVERYWHERE. YOU
SEE YOUR WORLD EVERYWHERE!
Ø
Go on a diet. Do a
housecleaning!!! Too many thoughts, memories, useless information are like
with being overweight physically, we are sluggish, stressed out, high blood
pressure, fatigued, slower, using up a lot of energy! If you want to feel
young, be open minded and let the old stuff go! Get rid of useless thoughts.
You’ll see your energy improve. You’ll look younger, you’ll even lose physical
weight. You’ll be allowing new ideas to come in. You’ll feel more
energy come in.
v
Identify your defective
thoughts.
What thoughts do you need
to get rid of? Defects are thoughts. We act on our
thoughts. That’s why defects cause defective behavior. What
thoughts cause you defective behavior? Tell
someone. Tell God. Ask God to get rid of them.
“Please God help me not to think this way.”
Ask God to help you find
a new way to look at things.
v
Get rid of obsessions!
When we obsess, we are
sending all of our energy into that person or object or idea. Because we are
doing nothing but thinking of it. Fantasizing about it, longing over it,
hoping for it, thinking about it much of the time, regretting it, and over and
over and on and on. Giving it attention is like rubbing sticks together,
eventually it starts a fire!
The obsession takes time
and attention. Time and attention need energy. When we direct our energy
to one thing, we have created a desire. And a desire needs to be
satisfied. Obsessions are never satisfied; neither are desires. Instead we
quench the fire of these obsessions with pleasures. This is like adding more
timber to the fire. It smothers it but eventually the timber ignites into a
bigger fire than before. Like drinking. It smothers our feelings but
re-ignites into an even worse situation.
Get rid of desires!
Don’t satisfy desires! Get rid of
desires by facing the truth! Desire comes from anger. Anger comes by
escalating our thinking over and over the thing that is bothering us and
not getting any satisfaction. An unsatisfied longing becomes an
obsession! Obsessions seduce us. We have allowed ourselves to be seduced or
tricked. This is denial. We no longer can see what started the fire or desire.
We turn outside of ourselves for relief. We are trying to satisfy our
DESIRE with pleasure to put out the pain or satisfy it. All we are doing
is acting on a lie with another lie! Desire comes from the root word –IRE
which means anger. So how can we stop being angry is the real problem!
Desire is like a FIRE.
Put out the desire or fire! Liquor fuels the fire! Anger fuels the fire!
Obsessing fuels the fire! Pleasure fuels the fire! Defective thinking fuels
the fire!
Solution: get rid of
desire and you put out the fire! In other words stop the lie by getting to the
root of the desire and tell yourself the TRUTH!
v
Decide what thoughts will
come into your head! What kind of
world do you want to see? Look in your mind. Look in your “house”
Look at your thoughts! This is your life. So, if your life is unmanageable.
That’s because your thoughts are causing you to see themselves. And what you
are seeing are your thoughts. We look out on the world through our
thoughts; they are our eyes to the world! You can only see what you have
inside. And what you have inside is only what you have taken inside.
Inside your head! So be selective. You are responsible for what comes in. YOU
are the sole proprietor of your mind, YOUR HOUSE-YOUR LIFE!You decide who you
want to be with. You decide who you wish to invite over to your house.
You decide who you want to be on your side. You choose who will support you.
You decide who will make you feel good. So the same is with your thoughts.
They are like people!
Ø
Decide what
thoughts you allow in your head! Before letting them stay ask yourself, are
they helpful? nurturing? Supportive? Are they causing anxiety and using
up a lot of energy?
v
Discipline your mind!
Like you would a child. You are your own parent. So talk to your thoughts like
you would your child.
Ø
Observe. Understand.
Love. Communicate.
Ø
Accept only supportive and
nurturing thoughts.
Ø
Control the mind by talking with
it. Gain its respect!
Talk to yourself; understand your thoughts. When you do that you begin to
understand yourself. Watch and observe your thoughts like children. Then
you begin to see how you think. Watch what thoughts come in.
When a negative thought or emotion comes up,
just observe it. Like with anger. It’s ferocious so watch
and detach and be careful. Allow it to happen in your mind. Watch it.
Calm it down if possible or let it get tired out like a child having a
tantrum. Allow only what is healthy and supportive in.
v ASK
FOR GOD’s HELP
Ø
We can not get rid of bad
thoughts without the help of God.
Ø
"Lean not on your own
understanding!"
Ø
Pray to God to show you the
way!
Ø
Keep your thinking pure of
wrongful thinking (resentment, worry, negativity, criticism, defects)
Ø
Meditate. Keep Heaven calm and still. God and peace reside within you.
Ask God what you should do about each questionable situation. The answer will
come if you want it. Listen to your conscience.
HAPPINESS COMES FROM A DISCIPLINED MIND!
Peace come from conquering desires! Happiness comes from self restraint
and discipline. Peace comes from controlling the mind.
v
The Mind and Body is the
temple of the Holy Spirit!
v
Heaven resides within us.
"Behold the Kingdom of Heaven is within."
Ø
Our lives will be peaceful.
